April 9, 2006 saw the inaugural River Cities Rumble Disc Golf Tournament, held at West Lake Park in Davenport Iowa. This first year tournament topped out at 120 players, including a large field of pro players. The tournament was put together by Chad Eng, a past president and current member of the Quad City Disc Golf Club. Chad, working together with the park service, put together a wonderfully challenging temporary course that covered a large part of the park. The course was very well received by all players for its great utilization of the natural
the terrain, including several challenging holes that bordered on the lake itself. More than one disc found its way into the lake, but the challenge of water shots was enjoyed by all. The tournament proved to be so popular that Chad reluctantly had to limit the field of players to 120, but reports are that the number of players who were unfortunately turned away was significant. This, while truly regrettable, should prove to help make for an even better and larger field for next years tourney. This years course consisted of twenty-four holes and include two rounds of play for the pro and advanced players, and one round for the intermediate and recreational players. Payout's in the Pro Men's division reached almost $3700, and the popularity of this years event should do nothing but raise that amount next year. This years winners included Chris Sprague in the Pro Men's division, Kathy Betcher was the Women's Open winner, and Gabe Guerreroo took first place in the Advanced division. This years event turned out to be a great event and a wonderful playing experience for those players who took part, and everyone is looking forward to next years return of the River Cities Rumble disc golf tournament!
